Knotts Family Agency

Community Partners

Organization’s capacity to collaborate with relevant public and private organizations: KFA has a track record of developing coalitions and partnering with other organization. The KFA Family Resource Center community partners has played a pivotal role in the provision of supportive, “value added” services such as food programs, childcare, ESL, parenting, health care, mental health treatment, and on-site peer support.  Partnering with other family strength organizations is key to provide a continuum of care for those who are seeking assistance. These neighborhood service providers (CBOs, FBOs etc) have sought to provide resources and services in settings that are comfortable, familiar, and welcoming. A few examples include:

• KFA was requested and funded by First 5 San Bernardino to lend major assistance and capacity building to one community-based organization that was about to close. KFA achieved success in two years.

• In conjunction with the Bradley Foundation of Los Angeles, KFA established “Streetlogy” - a highly successful program for reaching ‘difficult to reach populations. Since then KFA has recruited hundreds of participants in our service community.

• The University:  In partnering with CSUSB, UCLA, Loma Linda, UCR, and San Bernardino Valley College in program development, KFA has developed shared methods for community access and student participation.

• The Churches:  KFA has strong partnerships with the Inland Empire Concerned African American Churches (25 churches), Catholic Ministries (3 Churches), Inland Congregations United for Change in parenting programs, drug and substance abuse treatment and foster care programs.

• Public Schools:  KFA has a strong partnership with the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD).  KFA works with the SBUSD Family Resource Center in the development and implementation of parent advocacy programs.

• Local Community-Based Organizations:  Understanding that KFA cannot possibly address all the needs of the community, it has partnered with key community-based organizations to leverage resources thus providing clients with comprehensive care and in providing capacity building technical assistance to organizations in need.

• San Bernardino County:  KFA partners with various departments in San Bernardino County on the issues relating to Foster Care, Independent Living Programs, and Behavioral Health. KFA’s actions led to major cycles of funding for children 0-5 years, for Youth 16-24 emancipating from foster care and for children referred to the KFA Foster Care Agency 0-18 years old.

• In 2008 KFA was rated by First 5-San Bernardino as one of the most outstanding grantees with the positive behavioral changes that occurred in over 500 families annually since 2006.

• In March 2008, KFA set out to address the continuing problem of Health Disparities in the community directly prompted by the California Endowment.  California Endowment identified KFA as one of the agencies best situated and prepared to undertake this task. KFA organized a group of over 30 organizations including the churches and the universities in what was called, “The San Bernardino Green Alliance for a Healthy Community”. The California Endowment visited KFA in early June in anticipation of the first planning grant on behalf of the Alliance to address health disparities in our local communities.

• In March 2009, joined CA Alliance (Civic Engagement Program), KFA ensures that every program and grant making strategy includes civic and community engagement. Inspiring civic and community engagement is a part of each program seeking to build capacity in the community.
