Become a Respite Care Provider in California

Our Host Guardian program provides high-quality respite care for foster parents. There are Foster or Resource Parents who have a child in their home but may have to leave on a business trip or another outing and are not able to take the child they are caring for with them. This is where the host guardian, or respite care provider, comes in.

In these cases, we need families that are willing to take the child for a weekend, a week, or up to 14 days. Maybe you have a relative or a friend who is a foster parent and the children already spend time visiting with you. However, your friend or relatives are not able to leave the child with you for even a sleep-over even if the child calls you auntie and is attached to your own children. However, as a Host Guardian or provider of Respite Care, you can help by opening your heart and home on a short term basis without a long commitment.

One of the ways we help our parents and try to make sure they are happy is by arranging respite care for them. It may be that they need to go on a business trip, take a planned vacation, or simply need a few days to decompress and self-nurture. We are committed to the happiness and well-being of our parents, so we actively assist in finding a home where they can leave the children for a few days.

Do You Get Paid for Respite Foster Care?

You receive a stipend or reimbursement of the nights you care for a child. This is a win-win for everyone: The Foster Parent gets to rest and self-nurture and you get the satisfaction and emotional reward of helping a child even if it is only for a few days.
